Look-through data: support for holdings and/or aggregate sector, geography and currency exposure is missing. We will be adding look-though capabilities - Follow us on social media to find out when new version launches.
Microsoft Excel as database: while using Microsoft Excel makes the solution very simple to implement and manage, it is not robust. There is limited data validation, no built-in backup/audit, or fine-grain access control. A more robust solution would be to have a Investment Book of Record ("IBOR") and import the data into a Microsoft Fabric Data Lakehouse for manipulation before import into Power BI. Power BI for ETL: the solution uses Power Query and DAX calculated columns to performer the ETL (Extract, Transform, Load). Power Query is limited in its functionality and it can be complex and slow to perform what would be very easy in SQL. Additionally, the results are only available via the semantic model, so they cannot easily be used in another tool. A more robust solution would be load the Excel workbook into a Microsoft Fabric Data Lakehouse for manipulation before loading into Power BI. Benchmarking: this solution does not have any benchmark data available. Private market benchmark data usually requires licenses from the benchmark provider, which has a cost. If this data is made available externally, the cost can be very high. Some performance analytics platforms take care of this problem for you and include public and private market benchmarks. Liquidity, public markets, cash flow projections and more...: numerous additional features could be included to support the needs of reporting and analytics across a multi-asset portfolio.
